Health risks

What doping can do to the body

The use of prohibited substances and methods does not only compromise sporting integrity — it can have serious and sometimes permanent consequences for the athlete's physical and mental health.

  • Cardiovascular: hypertension, arrhythmias and increased risk of heart attack, especially with anabolic steroids and stimulants.
  • Hormonal: hormonal imbalances, infertility and irreversible developmental changes in younger athletes.
  • Hepatic and renal: overload and damage to the liver and kidneys associated with certain doping agents.
  • Psychological: aggression, anxiety, dependence and mood changes linked to substances such as steroids and stimulants.
  • Dependence and overdose: risk of continued use and, in extreme cases, death from acute complications.

In addition to physical risks, an anti-doping rule violation can mean suspension, loss of results and damage to the athlete's reputation. If in doubt about a supplement or medication, always contact AMOCAD before using it.
